Online Video Poker - Play Many Variations of Video Poker Online

History of Video Poker

Video Poker first started appearing at land based gaming venues in the mid to late 1970s. This game was the combination of using a monitor (similar to a television) and a solid state central processing unit. The game was very basic compared to today's versions and it is a game which is based on five card draw poker. The game was an instant hit with gamblers after it first started appearing.

With the introduction of the online casino, it was long before basic versions of this game started appearing numerous secure gambling portals around the world. There were already several different varieties of this game at land based casinos, so it didn't take long for most of these versions to make it to the virtual world.

Video Poker games such as Jacks or Better, All American, Deuced Wild, 10's or Better, Joker Poker and many other versions soon started becoming available online. By the late 90s/early 2000s, there were several leading online casino software providers developing more unique versions of this game. Since those very first Video Pokers were released online, very little has changed with the actual appearance of most of them.

How to Play Video Poker

It shouldn't take you long at all to learn how to play Video Poker, especially if you already know how to play standard five card draw poker. Some online casinos may even have this game in the practice mode, so you can play a few hands without worrying about losing your cash in the process.

Once you have launched a version of video poker that you would like to play, you can then adjust your stake by using the on-screen player controls. Once you have set your stake, you can then hit start/draw and you will be dealt five cards. You will receive a win if the cards that you are dealt make one of the different poker wins.

These wins include a pair, two pair, three of a kind, a straight, a flush, a full house, four of a kind, a straight flush or a royal flush. If the first cards that you have been dealt don't form a winning hand, you will have the option of being able to hold however many cards you want to remain in position and you will be re-dealt the remaining cards (the ones that you didn't hold) and hopefully this will form a win.

Video Poker Advice

The system will generally hold potential winning hands in place for you, so always go with what they suggest, unless you feel something better could come in by holding/un-holding certain other cards. Try to learn the wins as soon as possible and don't bet more than you can afford.

As soon as you launch any version of video poker, you will be able to browse through the rules. This will tell you how much each win is worth and the actual odds. If you don't learn these, you will find that you could be betting on the wrong hand to come in every time, or you could be betting on hands that are extremely unlikely to be drawn.

If you are familiar with the rules and you consider yourself a bit of a pro, why don't you try your hand at multihand Video Poker. Most online casinos now have both single hand and multihand versions of this popular available. Like most other games though, if you are unfamiliar with the rules, launch this game in the free play demo mode until you are confident enough to sample it in the real money mode.
